Sorry it’s been a couple of days since our last update. We’ve been sitting on pins and needles waiting to learn more about Declan’s surgery. This journey has truly been a roller coaster, and this week brought another big bump in the ride.
Both boys are continuing to grow and overall are doing well, but they’ve definitely had their moments. The week started off rough. Within the first five minutes of walking in one morning, Colton had a major episode. His heart rate dropped into the 50s and his oxygen levels fell into the 50s as well. They had to bag him again…something I haven’t seen in weeks. It was incredibly scary and a tough way to start the day. That Green bag will be always be apart of my nightmares.
At the same time, Declan’s surgical team was in discussing plans. As of now, his surgery is scheduled for Friday, but there are still a lot of unknowns. It could take anywhere from 2–3 hours to 6–8+ hours depending on what they find once they begin. We’ve been told to prepare for a long day.
Declan was also supposed to have a GI scan, but with everything happening during Colton’s episode, it had to be pushed and is now planned for Wed morning. However, Declan calls the shots and said no. Declan spiked a fever early Tuesday around midnight. Thankfully, he hasn’t had another fever since, but it now has led to more tests and close monitoring…
As of now, surgery is still on schedule for Tomorrow Friday the 17th, but there is still a chance it could be delayed depending on how things look. Need to learn and understand why Declan spiked this fever before he goes in for surgery.
There have been a few positives in the middle of all this. Declan’s eye exam came back good. Colton’s eyes, however, They’ll check again next Tuesday… didn’t look as good… if there’s no change, they’ll begin injections to help stimulate vessel growth, which is common in premature babies. If that doesn’t work, laser treatment would be the next step in a few weeks. Hope he was just having a bad day. 🤞🤞
Mom was able to go home for a night to spend time with Riley and Dad. With everything ahead, it felt important to take that small break while we could. It meant a lot. Unsure when the opportunity will arise again.
Now all eyes are on Declan’s surgery. We’re hoping to get a confirmed time later today, with plans pointing to tomorrow morning if everything stays on track. This is a huge moment, one we’ve been waiting eight weeks for. He’s finally big and strong enough, and now it comes down to what the surgeons find and what they’re able to do. This surgery will help define his path forward.
We’re asking for all the prayers, positive thoughts, and support you can send his way. This roller coaster continues, and we’re holding on tight, hoping for the best possible outcome for our sweet boys.
