Today was such a good day for both of our boys.
Colton did amazing. He got his oxygen down to 50% and was so comfortable that we decided it was finally time to put him in clothes. We spent about an hour with him, changing his bedding, getting him dressed, and just being with him and he handled it all so well. Seeing him like that… he looks so big and so grown-up. It’s one of those moments we will hold onto forever.
Declan had a really great day too. He made it down to 21% oxygen, room air, and then spent most of the day resting. After seeing how well his brother did, we decided it was Declan’s turn for clothes too. We changed his bedding, got him dressed, and he looks so darn cute.
But one of the best parts of today… Declan finally opened his eyes for more than just a quick blink. He kept them open for almost 10 minutes. He was so alert, so sweet, just taking everything in. Perfect eye contact with momma, it felt like I was really seeing him, and he was seeing me. He was flirtatious, lovable, and completely stole everyone’s hearts all over again.
Surgery also stopped by today, and because Declan has started pooping on his own, we’ve decided now is not the right time for surgery. Instead, we’re going to give him the chance to grow and continue doing things on his own. Every extra day, every extra week, is more growth and more strength for his intestines. We are giving him the best opportunity for success.
😭😭 This is all such a blessing.
On a day (Good Friday) that marks so much sacrifice and love, we are being shown just how good life can be. God is so good.
