Today was an overall green day, but a very busy one.
Starting with Colton…he’s been a little fussy, which is understandable. He still has quite a bit of swelling and, yes, we’re back to the pooping struggles again. We kind of expected this with all of the pain medications, but here we are.
His face is still pretty swollen as his body works on getting rid of the excess fluid. Today we noticed a small issue with the healing around his trach stoma, but after the surgery team came by, they had no concerns. We simply changed the dressing, and now he has a blue one instead of a pink one. I think Colton approves of the upgrade. We're hopeful that over the next day or two we'll start to see some of that swelling come down.
As for Declan…he is an absolute wild man. He constantly wants attention, and I think this might just be his personality now. He gets very upset when he loses his pacifier, but he can't quite keep it in on his own yet. That means someone has to be the official pacifier holder 24/7, and that job currently belongs to Mom.
He was especially cute and fun today. We had a lot of good moments together and even got him into some new outfits. We're still waiting on his upper GI study. We weren't able to get it done today, but we're hopeful it will happen tomorrow. After that, we're hoping to start working toward feeds over the weekend. We don't want to rush anything, we want everything to go smoothly and be successful, but I am definitely eager to feed him. Overall, he's doing really well.
Both boys are doing great right now and are needing a lot of Mom. I don't think I sat down for more than a few minutes all day. It was back and forth, back and forth, back and forth…. Exhausting? Absolutely. Worth it? Every single second.
I'll gladly take days like this over the scary, hard days. Today was busy, but it was good. And right now, good is exactly what we need.
Ready for another day!
