Today was a red day.
We'll start with Declan because he had the much easier day of the two.
Declan had his lower GI study today, and everything went well. We are still waiting for the surgery team to officially review the results before making any decisions about feeding. The study showed a small bubble between his upper and lower intestines, so the team just wants to make sure they are comfortable with everything before moving forward.
Other than that, Declan had a good day. He was incredibly patient while so much attention was focused on his brother. He also got some much-needed snuggles and was as sweet as ever. Lately, he just wants someone to hold his pacifier for him, and it is honestly one of the cutest things he does.
Now for Colton.
Today was a very hard day.
Colton had two confirmed seizures. One was witnessed by his nurses, and another was captured while he was being monitored. Because of these events, he is currently connected to continuous monitoring and has been started on anti-seizure medication.
Right now, the medical team believes the seizures may be related to an infection. There is concern that an infection from his trach site may have spread and is now affecting his brain, which could indicate a form of meningitis. We are still waiting for additional information and testing to help determine exactly what is going on.
As you can imagine, this is not the news we were hoping for, especially after everything Colton has already fought through. Today was scary, overwhelming, and heartbreaking.
Tonight, we're asking for prayers, positive thoughts, and every bit of strength you can send Colton's way. He has overcome so much in his short life already, and we're hoping tomorrow brings more answers and a step in the right direction.
Thank you all for continuing to follow along, support our family, and love these boys so fiercely. This mommas heart is struggling.
