Good morning everyone 🤍
Big update day over here. We have a new doctor leading the team—she’s a soft-spoken, experienced woman who immediately gave us a sense of calm. The kind of doctor who doesn’t need to say much because you can tell she truly knows what she’s doing. We feel really good about her and the plan moving forward.
Colton:
Today is a big step. Around noon, they’ll begin slowly weaning his sedation to start testing his lungs and see how he does. The team has a 5–7 day plan in place to gradually decrease support and see if he can tolerate it. If all goes well (and that’s a big “if,” because we are letting him lead), we might start having conversations about coming off the vent at some point…
He will still need oxygen for a while, but this is the first step in pulling things back now that his PDA is recovering. We’re hopeful, but staying grounded. We know how quickly things can change, he could decide he’s not ready and we may have to take steps backward again. So we’re holding onto “slow and steady” and letting him show us the way.
Declan:
Declan has had more bleeding than we’d like, so for now we’ve removed the ostomy bag and are giving his body time to rest and heal. The goal is to see a few days of decreased bleeding and stable blood levels before bringing the surgery team back into the conversation or starting feeds again.
We’re hoping maybe later this week if things settle, but right now the focus is simple: let his body calm down and recover.
We’re walking into this week with cautious hope. There are small steps forward, but we know this journey is anything but linear. We’re trusting the team, trusting our boys, and trying to stay present in each moment.
Please continue to pray for steady progress, healing, and peace over both boys. Pray for their lungs, their blood levels, their little bodies to do what they were made to do. And pray for wisdom for the doctors and nurses guiding every decision.
We’re so grateful for all of you walking alongside us 🤍
