Our almost 2 month old boys are growing.
It’s been a day of both encouragement and continued challenges.
Colton:
We saw some real progress with Colton the last few days. After adjusting his breathing tube and ventilator, his lungs responded well and his oxygen needs have improved. One scan looked really encouraging, though a follow-up showed a new area they’re keeping a close eye on. Because of some changes over the past few days, the team restarted antibiotics just to be safe and stay ahead of anything possible.
They’re beginning to slowly lift some of his heavier medications, including the paralysis and steroids, which feels like a big step. He’s also started slowly on feeds again which is a huge step forward.
Declan:
Declan continues to fight in his own way. He’s stable on the ventilator but still needing support. He’s had some ongoing bleeding, so he needed more transfusions yesterday & today, which is always hard to see but necessary to keep him strong.
He’s also still being treated for infection and belly issues, and the team is being very intentional with his antibiotics to make sure everything is covered. There are still a lot of moving pieces with him right now, including his liver, so we’re taking things one step at a time. First step is to stop the bleeding occurring in his wound. The surgery team and wound teams are working together.
We’re constantly reminded that this journey isn’t linear. There are steps forward, steps back, and a whole lot of waiting in between. But we trust deeply that these boys are in the best hands, both medically and in God’s care.
Mom is currently always by the bedside being an adovcate for them and a familiar comforting voice for the boys. As they are getting older (almost 2 months!!!) they are noticing voices and the familiar touch. They can tell when mom is in the room, makes it easier on the nurses & doctors.
Thank you for continuing to pray for our boys. We feel it. We need it. Please keep praying for healing, stability, and strength for both Colton and Declan 🤍
