Overall, today feels like a steady day and right now, we’ll take steady every single time.

Colton

Colton continues to stay stable on his current breathing support. His oxygen needs are still a bit higher and fluctuate, but he’s holding his own. He’s continuing treatment for his infection, and we’re grateful he’s tolerating everything well so far.

His eye exam today showed no signs of concern, which is such a relief, and we’ll check again next week. He’s also continuing to slowly increase his feeds while still receiving nutrition through IV.

Comfort-wise, he’s been resting well and seems peaceful, which means everything to us. Except this boy needs to poop again, he hasn’t pooped since the last update with rocks. We are hopeful for a full diaper tomorrow!!

Declan

Declan is also staying comfortable on the ventilator, and his oxygen needs have actually been a bit lower at times, a small but encouraging win.

He’s still not on feeds yet, but that could change as soon as tomorrow. When we do start, it will be very slow and carefully monitored. This feels like a big step, and we’re hopeful his body is ready. (Lets go D!!!)

He continues to be closely watched for his infection, and while it’s been a heavy road with medications and transfusions, we are seeing small signs of progress. His bilirubin levels are coming down, which is another positive we’re holding onto….. 🫣🫣

His eye exam today showed early changes, but nothing unexpected for where he’s at and we’ll continue to monitor weekly.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, we meet a new team of doctors who specialize in lung and breathing development. This transition is a big step toward thinking about the boys’ long-term care and what their future could look like. It’s both overwhelming and reassuring to know they’ll have a team focused on that next phase.

We know Declan also has a procedure coming up, and right now we’re just taking things one step at a time starting with how he tolerates feeds, as the first step

We’ve learned not to get too far ahead, but we are quietly hoping this stretch continues.
