The boys had a FANTASTIC night and we really needed that.
Declan
Declan lost more weight, which is a great step forward, and he’s now easily opening his eyes. His nurses spent a lot of time with him and said he just stared at them for most of the day & night, taking everything in. He’s also starting to grab at things, he loves hand holding.
He is up a bit on his oxygen, but that’s not a bad thing, it just means he’s more awake and active.
Big milestone today: Declan is coming off dialysis at 1:00!!! Let’s see how he does…
And honestly… he is wide awake. Like, big eyes wide awake, enough to scare us a little. We’re not used to seeing him like this, but it’s incredible at the same time.
Colton
Colton is doing amazing in his own way too. He’s gained more weight and is now 5 lbs 8 oz!
His new breathing support is really helping. He’s no longer setting off alarms unless he needs suction, and overall he had a really solid night.
We’re also making a big transition today (or tomorrow) is his last day of breast milk, and he’ll be moving fully to formula. Saving the rest of his milk for his brother.
He’s now up to 40 mL every 3 hours, which is about 10 oz a day, almost a full pop can. That’s HUGE for him.
Looking ahead, tomorrow we’ll be changing his breathing again to a new setup that allows him to do more on his own. He’s showing us he’s ready.
We are still watching his eyes closely. They’re not improving yet, so next week we may have to discuss injections to help them develop… but for now, we focus on the fact that he is growing and getting stronger.
Big changes over here, in the best way.
Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. One step at a time. 💙🩵
